Komen Puget Sound Grace Notes Gala Raises More Than $800,000 to Fight Breast Cancer in Western Washington
Komen Puget Sound benefactors and friends gathered at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel Seattle for the annual Grace Notes Gala on March 4, raising more than $800,000 to help women and families in Western Washington.
About 300 attended the event, many sporting hats and bow ties in the spirit of this year’s “Night at the Races” theme. Guests enjoyed a lavish cocktail party, live bluegrass music, live and silent auctions and a multi-course dinner.
A personal story and appeal from Komen Puget Sound board member Vince Claudio helped fuel the fundraising effort, all in support of the Komen Bold Goal to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the U.S. in ten years.
Komen Puget Sound directs lifesaving breast health services to local women and families who need them. Through community grants, cancer screenings, diagnostics, education and treatment support are offered to people who otherwise have trouble accessing these services.
Through Grace Notes, Komen Puget Sound also supports researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the University of Washington and elsewhere who focus on the most aggressive forms of breast cancers and metastatic disease.
