Scientific research has identified an increasing number of alterations at the gene and protein level in breast cancers that can serve as a target for therapy. Several new drugs have been recently approved that are directed to these targets, with many other agents under study. It is increasingly clear that a better understanding of a patient’s and a cancer’s unique genetics and genomics can offer new possibilities for individualized treatment of metastatic breast cancer. This talk will review emerging areas in the treatment of breast cancer and exciting areas of ongoing research.

Clinical Trials: Access and Navigation

Choosing to participate in a clinical trial is an important personal decision. A person’s income shouldn’t dictate whether they can access a clinical trial. Dr. Hanna Linden will help Mets patients understand the importance of the Clinical Trials for the patient, including how to access them and how your provider can help you navigate this process.

Washington State Social Security & Disability

Social Security helps people work without losing benefits. The Ticket to Work program allows you to receive free employment support services and take advantage of work incentives that make it easier to work and still receive benefits such as health care. Kirk Larson will help Mets patients understand as well as how to navigate this program.

Callista Kennedy from the King County Public Health Department will help Mets patients understand how insurance works, including what other resources are available for patients who are underinsured or uninsured.
